Safeguarding local equity as global values of ecosystem services rise (ESPA project)

Based on UCSD’s work on REDD-net project, we partnered with the University of Southampton (and others) is implementing a research project that aims to draw on a wide range of ecosystem services literature to develop and test a conceptual framework that analyses how changes in the global value of ecosystem services lead to changes in local-level equity and the key factors that influence these outcomes.

This project seeks to fill gaps in current understanding by developing and operationalising a conceptual framework that will help decision-makers in REDD+ and Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) programmes minimizes negative impacts on equity and maximizes positive impacts. The overall aim is to promote the contribution of ecosystem services to poverty alleviation based on a common understanding of how changes in the global value of ecosystem services lead to changes in local-level equity and the key factors that influence these outcomes.
